There are some really cool things coming up in Downtown Marion!
Our very first
CASH MOB!!!! A Cash Mob is essentially an organized Flash
Mob that supports our local businesses. For our first Mob, we'll all meet in
the CanDo/Marion Area Chamber of Commerce building parking lot about
5:15 Monday, May 14. At 5:30 we'll walk to a local
store. Each person in the mob is asked to spend at least $10 in that store
(and each store will have gift certificates available so if you don't
immediately find something you'd like, you can purchase a certificate to give
away or use yourself on a future purchase). We'll spend about an hour at the
store and then move on to an after party at another local business ...
this time it will be Circa at 6:30 p.m. Circa is a high-end refreshment
center in a beautifully refurbished building located at 181 North Main Street
(between the tracks). There is parking in back or you can park at Fahey
Bank. You can attend one event or both!
Downtown Marion is proud to be partnering with
Marion's Young Professionals group in this effort. We hope to do a Cash Mob
every couple of weeks at local businesses throughout the community. Eating,
Shopping and Playing locally is important, and Cash Mobs are an
absolutely stupendous way to invest in our community $10 at a time.
Come out and help us support our local businesses!
The Marion Area Counseling Center will be
present MACC Fest Auction & Dinner at Park Place on Friday,
May 18. There will be a silent auction, a live auction, and a raffle drawing,
as well as "The Mentalist" for your entertainment pleasure. Tickets to the
Auction & Dinner are $30 each and include a raffle ticket ... or you can
purchase raffle tickets separately for $10 or 3 for $20. Call 740.387.5210 for more information.
On Saturday, May 19,
Downtown Marion will be partnering with APEX Church for their "Paint the Town"
initiative. That day will begin with a
free breakfast at 9:00 a.m. for volunteers at the church (162 West Center
Street), and then be followed by a number of activities, including painting
some of the building fronts in Downtown Marion, cleaning vacant store windows,
planting flowers, pulling weeds, and the ongoing trash pickup.
We’ll have a number of visitors come into our
Downtown throughout the summer and we want to put our best foot forward.
Think of it as sprucing up a house to put on the market or dressing for
success … to attract more businesses to Downtown Marion, we need to sell
ourselves, in part, through our appearance.
Your
volunteer help that day will be greatly appreciated ... there will be something
most everyone can do. If you can't be there to help, please consider donating
cash for paint and supplies or possibly some flowers .... maybe daylillies
(Stellas, Happy Returns, or any reblooming variety) or hostas as a couple of
suggestions.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Steve
Johnston of Johnston Supply who will be paying for all of the mulch we'll be
using in all of those square planters. WOW! I'd also like to thank Jason
Shaber who as offered to provide us with a water system if we need it this
summer. THANK YOU so much!!!!!
On Sunday,
May 20, it will be MARION DAY with the COLUMBUS CLIPPERS! The day is all about
a tribute to Marion, Ohio – the jumbotron will run Marion facts and photos. The
Marionairs will do the National Anthem and Ken Stiverson throwing out the first
pitch and Larry Barnett behind the plate. Game time is 1:05, and tickets are
only $10 adult/$7 youth & senior for reserved seating and $6 adult/$300

Next
weekend, May 18 - 20: October Baby. Fandango.com describes the religious
drama, October Baby, as the story of 19-year-old Hannah, who finds out she is
adopted and is the survivor of an attempted abortion. She goes on a road trip to
find answers, locate her birth mother and, ultimately, discovers how powerful
forgiveness can be. October Baby offers viewers an enjoyable, entertaining,
intensely human film about friends hitting the road together and finding more
than they bargained for: adventure, romance, truth . . . and the power to
forgive. But, the film is more than that—it tells the story of one young woman’s
journey based on hundreds of stories of abortion survivors. October Baby
honestly and evenhandedly invites audiences to explore their own views of life’s
value and the importance of their choices.
Rated PG-13 for Mature Thematic
Material.
Run time 1 hour, 45 minutes
