New Pizza Place open in Downtown Marion !

The weather outside may be frightful today, but there are still many reasons to come to Downtown Marion.

First, enjoy a filling bowl of homemade soup and many other warming lunch and dinner delights at one of our wonderful Downtown Restaurants: The Candy Shack & Cafe' is open 11 - 2 for lunch, Monday - Friday; Baires is open until 2:00 Monday - Friday and for dinner from 5 - 8 on Friday nights; Infinity in the Harding Center is open daily for lunch and dinner; as well as The Warehouse, also open daily for lunch & dinner.

Speaking of food ... There is a new pizza place open in Downtown Marion ... appropriately called Downtown Pizza! Formerly Newts, they are located at 153 South Main Street and are open Monday - Friday for lunch, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Monday - Sunday they open at 4 p.m. with varied closing times. You can stop in for a flyer with a menu & coupons, or call them at 387-4242. Their menu includes not only pizzas, but a wide variety of subs, salads, nachos, breadsticks, & more.

Second, as usual, Marion's Historic Palace Theatre features something early every weekend. Tonight, January 13, it's Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone at 8:00 p.m. I've seen this show a couple times before, including at the Palace, and I would recommend it to anyone. Always an audience favorite and followed avidly by Noonatics worldwide, Peter Noone, accompanied by his band Herman’s Hermits, brings extraordinary talent, disarming wit, handsome features and compelling stage presence to stages around the world. Back at the Palace for a reprise performance of his 2004 visit, this leader of the British invasion is one of the most recognized pop stars from the 1960s. With 24 Gold Hits and over 51 million records sold worldwide, Peter’s fans span 3 generations. Well known for his audience interaction, hits include: I’m Into Something Good, Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter, I’m Henry VIII, I Am, Leaning On The Lamp Post, and There’s A Kind Of Hush.

Next up at the Palace on Friday, January 20, at 8:00 p.m. is Ellery in the May Pavilion. In nearly a decade of making music, Justin and Tasha Golden (the husband-wife duo known as Ellery) are feeling more at home now than ever before. Hailing from Cincinnati, Ellery’s sound is best described as Sarah McLachlan meets Ben Folds. Their shows are infectious and enveloping, with swirling sounds, loud louds, quiet quiets and “a voice no less than mesmerizing” (Asheville Mountain Xpress). Hear some of their music at http://ellery.bandcamp.com or http://www.ellerymusic.com. Tickets are $10.

The Palace will also feature a movie next weekend, Alvin & the Cipmunks; Chipwrecked. Dave Seville (Jason Lee), the Chipmunks (Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney) and the Chipettes are taking a luxury cruise to the International Music Awards. Of course, Alvin cannot resist the urge to create havoc, and the singing rodents soon find themselves marooned on a seemingly deserted island. While Dave and an unlikely ally launch a search, Alvin and company discover that they are not alone on the island, as they first thought. Ticket Prices: $4 Adults / $3 Ages 62 & Over / $2 Ages 12 & Younger. It's rated G and run an hour & a half so little ones don't get too antsy.

And last but not least, there are a wide variety of stores in Downtown Marion with great pricing. Come downtown & shop soon!

Why? Because Downtown Marion Matters.
